Vienna: 10 tips for your visit

I got so much on my plate lately since uni has started again... Having a (almost fulltime) job, being in uni, going to the gym AND having a social life is like the hardest thing ever!
But I don't want to whine, here's the post about Vienna and my tips for your visit!

1. Buy the Sisi-Ticket

The probably wisest thing we've done was to buy the Sisi-Ticket where you can visit Schloss Schönbrunn, the Hofburg with the Sisi museum, the emperial appartements and the silverware museum and last but not least the museum of emperial furniture (which we skipped). The whole thing costs about 30€ per person but since we are students we only paid 25€ (you gotta take every chance lol). The big Sisi fan I am I was absolutely stoked by all the luxury and comfort they used to have in the 19th century. Empress Elisabeth was such an inspirational and complex woman and I recommend everybody to visit the museum when you're in Vienna!

2. See the city by day AND by night

Especially at dusk the city has a very romantic flair. With all the historic carriages and the impressive buildings it just feels like a journey through the times of the Austrian empire.

3. "Said the butcher to the cow"

No worries, I'm not trying to tell a funny joke. This is the name of a very nice burger place near the Opera (address: Opernring 11, 1010 Wien, Website with menu). They have nice extravagant variety and the service is great. Make reservations on weekends.

4. Healthy and fit with "Superfoods Deli"

One of my favourite places was the Superfoods Deli in Mariahilfer street. They have amazing smoothie bowls, coffee, porridge and curries and the staff is so super cool and friendly. They also are on foodora. Be careful, it's a bit hard to find since it's in a small passage but you'll manage! Pay them a visit... (IG: superfooddeli)

5. Café Sacher

Okay as you can see this post turns out to be a "Where to eat in Vienna" guide but you don't wanna miss out on these culinary hotspots. Café Sacher, as the most famous coffeehouse in Vienna, is THE tourist attraction of the city. We literally waited 45 minutes before even getting a table and we spent 6,50€ for the famous "Sachertorte" which is actually just a dry piece of chocolate cake. But the atmosphere and the very gentle and polite staff in their cute costumes are still worth it. If you don't mind spending a little fortune on cake - go for it!

6. Stephen's cathedral

Very important: ONLY VISIT THE SOUTHERN TOWER. Why? Because we visited the northern one and it was absolutely unspectacular. You have to pay 4,50€ to get up and I tell you: It's not worth it unless you go up to the southern tower.

7. Pay attention to the architecture

Actually, you could spend at least one day strolling around and admiring the awesome and impressive architecture of the city.

8. Don't visit the Prater

Just don't go. Trust me. Do NOT go.

9. Shopping is overrated

The shopping opportunities are good, no question. But if you don't have a lot of time in the city, don't spend it shopping. There is so much to see and I really feel like Vienna isn't the place to shop. German cities or Amsterdam are shopping paradises but not Vienna.

10. If you're a bit of a spiritual person, stay at the "Stift Heiligenkreuz"

Staying in a monestry might be frightening at first but I definitely recommend trying it. Don't know which religion you follow or if you even follow anything but even if not, this place is worth a visit! The monks are super friendly, not pushy and they send out such relaxed vibes that you really feel less stressed after your stay. The rooms there are gorgeous and cheap and I really challenge you to soak in the vibe there for once. Even if you don't want to stay there overnight, it's worth a day trip since it's only about 30 minutes away from the city. The building is huge and massive and if you sign up for a guide you will learn a lot about the history there! Visit their website here to get a first impression.
